Day 5 - scarce water Post
I walked 45794 steps on the trail today.
I traveled about 21 miles today.
First warm day in the desert. Found small pool of h2o in a creekbed - whew!
Check out my current location on the map.

I trust you are not counting each of those steps :-) I think you are now solo so keep your mind working and moving in the right direction (north). How has your gear worked so far? i loved the picture with the two water bottles -- it looked like a Wisconsin hat if you know what i mean. Be good and take care. tom

Did you forget to set your alarm clock this morning? Don't see any movement.
How did you cross the interstate? Underneath the freeway or cross with the traffic?

You sitting in a hot springs all day? Or forget to turn Spot on? :-)
Do you read these postings on your hike?
Can you use the 'custom' markings of Spot to drop points where you eat lunch and where you camp?
Also, can you post a picture of your face every couple days so we can see your beard grow. I hope someone doesn't mistake you for a sasquatch! :-)
And one last request, can you post pics of the trail a head of you when ever the terrain changes...if it does at all.
Have fun and stay safe!

I'll be in Cave Creek/Carefree, AZ March 29-April 6. Let me know if I can bring you anything if/when you're in the neighborhood.

How's the water purification process working? Did you pack Kool-aid?

The Sawyer Squeeze water filter is working excellently. I've gotten water from a small pool, a cistern, a creek, and a stock tank. So far, so good.
Steve - thanks, but I have only vague idea of where I'll be at any time and I hope I have everything I need.
I can't read these comments while on the trail - I can only check when I get somewhere that I can borrow a computer.
I'll post a photo each day, hopefully, but not always of me.
There was a square cement culvert that passed under I-10 east of Tucson. The wind was blowing through it and it was just like having air conditioning! It was about 85+ out on the sand, but maybe 60 in the culvert. A nice place to stop for lunch. :-)
I have a pedometer I'm wearing on my shoe and it weighs almost nothing. I'm very happy with just about everything I decided to take and made myself. Nothing that has not been used yet except my first aid kit and cathode trowel. I've been lucky to come across an outhouse every day or so.
